Project Details:
The Geaux South program is a $3 billion program dedicated to upgrading U.S. 90 to interstate standards. This design-build project involved upgrading the existing U.S. 90 and LA 318 signalized intersection to a full control of access, grade-separated interchange including the reconstruction of the U.S. 90 frontage roads to provide local access to La. 318. The $56 million project was primarily funded with unclaimed property funds. The final design included upgrades involving construction of a concrete girder span bridge over Louisiana 85 along the US 90 corridor, an extensive rehabilitation of frontage roads and ramps, the relocation of an existing microwave communication tower, and the installation and upgrade of permanent drainage structures, as well as permanent signing plans for the new interchange in accordance with DOTD policies and AASHTO criteria. As part of the plan, the project improved connectivity for industrial and freight transport to the sugar mill and port-related industries, as well as increased capacity and improved overall mobility.
