US 90-LA 318 Safety Celebration

US 90-LA 318 Design-Build Safety Milestone

Good afternoon,

It is with tremendous pride that we share a significant safety milestone on our Design Build Project 1216 (US 90/LA 318 I-49 Interchange) in Jeanerette, Louisiana.

During the calendar year 2016, GCC teams, along with our external partners and subcontractors, performed work on this project which encompassed multiple construction operations. We acquired property, cleared right-of-way, relocated utilities, poured and placed barrier rail, moved traffic, performed excavation/embankment work, cut soil cement, and installed drainage pipe. GCC asphalt, concrete, and bridge structure teams mobilized to provide roadway services and structure work, all while working daytime and night-time shifts. Our resource teams, including equipment and transportation, transported and serviced equipment, moved materials and ensured that our construction teams had what they needed to safely put the work in place. The combined man hours on the project during the calendar year 2016 totaled 146,559, all with zero recordable injuries or accidents!

We would like to recognize and thank our owner, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), and our partners, Stantec, Pan American Engineers, GeoEngineers, Gulf Engineers & Consultants (GEC), and Southeast Engineers. Working together, we partnered to put work in place while providing a safe environment for our employees as well as the traveling public and surrounding residents.

On Thursday, March 16th, the 1216 Project Team celebrated this significant safety milestone during our quarterly project partnering meeting which was held at the West St. Mary Civic Center. Our field teams came in at noon to enjoy lunch and participate in a team safety celebration. We distributed t-shirts to each team member, memorializing this great event! Below are a few photos from the event.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who is working to ensure this project is safe and successful! We appreciate the great work that each of you does!
