Meche and Wikoff Bridges

Meche and Wikoff bridges started on November 30th. This job is two separate bridges around 9 miles apart in Acadia Parish. They are both 80 ft long x 24 ft wide, four span precast bridges, one is a 90 degree bridge and the other is on a 75 degree skew. Greg Branch drove all of the 14" concrete piles and assembled both structures with some help from Jerry Burnamen and Daniel Babineaux. Melvin Reed has completed all pipe structures and is currently working on class II base course. We are anticipating to complete mid March.
US 90 Interchange @ LA 85

The US 90 Interchange @ LA 85 Project is the first Design Build Project to be awarded to Gilchrist. This project is located at the US 90 and LA 85 intersection south of New Iberia. This project is considerably different than normal DOTD Design, Bid, Build projects.
With a Design Build Project, the contractor bids, designs, and builds the project. Gilchrist has partnered with ABMB Engineers for the design, AECOM for Quality Control, and Geoengineers for geotechnical support. The project consists of 2 - 1540' bridges with 40' approach slabs on both ends. These bridges will require 1,075,000 lbs of steel and 6,130 cubic yards of concrete. There is over 40,000 cubic yards of embankment and over 12,000 cubic yards of non-plastic embankment to be hauled in for the project. Being placed on top of the embankment is a total on 36,078 square yards of concrete paving along with 10,943 tons on asphalt. In addition to the bridges and roadway work, we will be installing a new communication tower and removing the existing tower. The project is scheduled to be complete in June 2011.
Esplanade Bridge

The Esplanade Bridge is a 10 span flat deck bridge over Bayou Pierre in Shreveport. The bridge is being built for a private developer for a future residential development in the Shreveport area. Estimated completion is May 2010.
Hwy 28 West

This project is located on Hwy 28 West in Vernon Parish. The project started in April 2009. The project consists of adding two west bound lanes to the existing roadway The girder bridge over Cypress Bayou is complete. The bridge over Calcasieu River is currently at 50% complete. Traffic swap is scheduled for March 2010. Completion of Phase II work and final finish date is scheduled for April 2010.
LA 523 - Shreveport

This project is on LA 523 in Shreveport also known as Flournoy-Lucas Road and Ellerbe Road. The project consists of building a new 5 lane urban concrete roadway and removing the existing 2 lane asphalt roadway. The project also has 10,000 LF of pipe, 80,000 CY of Embankment, 2 flat deck bridges, sanitary sewer line relocation, and traffic signal work. Estimated completion date is February 2011.
US 167- Grant Parish Line to Winnfield
The project is part of the TIMED program and consists of constructing two southbound lanes for seven and a half miles, and constructing two Northbound lanes for one mile.
There is one flat deck bridge spanning 200 feet and two Type 4 girder bridges spanning 310 feet each over a KCS Railroad. There is approximately 740,000 CY of embankment and 550,000 CY of Excavation. The remainder of the project is made up of varying sizes of drainage pipe and structures along with 20,000 SY of a fabriform paved ditch. The project spans from the Winn Parish / Grant Parish Border to the Southside of Winnfield along the US 167 Corridor. Completion date should be around April of 2009.
US 165 Georgetown - Tullos
This project is one with a wide variety of work to be done.
This 8 mile project has a total of six bridges - two flat deck bridges, three girder bridges, and one girder overpass; 400,000+ cubic yards of soils to be imported and 300,000+ cubic yards to be moved onsite; 10,000+ feet of drainage structures; and 60,000+ tons of asphalt paving.
